My skin tingles after I use a product. Should I stop using it?

If you’re new to using products that have a slightly higher percentage of active ingredients, especially star ingredients like alpha-hydroxy-acids (AHA’s) which most of our products contain, you might experience a bit of tingling which can be a good indicator that your skin is responding well.

If you’re experiencing a persistent tingling that doesn’t disappear, a burning sensation, your skin becomes red or inflamed, or you develop a rash you should stop using the product immediately and visit your dermatologist to check whether you’re allergic to one of the ingredients.

We always recommend performing a patch test before adding any new products to your skincare routine. To patch test a product, apply it to either your inner upper arm or side of your neck and leave it on for 24 hours before rinsing it off. Don’t use the product if any redness, burning, irritation, rash or itchiness develop during that period.

I’m getting pimples since I started using your products. Is this normal?

If you’re incorporating new products with slightly higher percentages of active ingredients into your routine, you might experience some light flaking or mild breakouts. This is a good thing though because it can be an indication that the product is working like it’s supposed to!

We call this ‘skin purging’ and is a common reaction with products like ours that contain star ingredients like hydroxy acids and retinoids. This happens because the active ingredient is increasing your skin cell turnover rate, which means you’re shedding dead skin cells faster and existing blockages are coming to the surface. In time, the purging should stop and your skin should become clearer than when you first started using the product.

Can I use your products if I have sensitive or reactive skin?

In an effort to make sure that our products are non-irritating and suitable for all skin types, we avoid ingredients like synthetic fragrances, synthetic colourants, alcohol, parabens, formaldehyde and other harsh chemicals. Most of our products are suitable for sensitive skin but do have a range of products that were specifically developed with sensitive skin types in mind.

As each of us has different sensitivity levels to specific ingredients, we always recommend performing a patch test before adding any new products to your skincare routine. To patch test a product, apply it to either your inner upper arm or side of your neck and leave it on for 24 hours before rinsing it off. Don’t use the product if any redness, burning, irritation, rash or itchiness develop during that period.

if you’re still unsure, we’re always happy to help. Please email us any questions that you may have.

Are there any common allergens used in your products?

Our products are made using plant-based active ingredients and safe dilutions of essential oils and plant extracts which may include the likes of coconut oil, chamomile oil and tea-tree oil, among others. Some people might be more sensitive to essential oils than others, so please check the product label to ensure that you are not allergic or skin sensitive to any of the ingredients used. If you experience any adverse reactions, discontinue use immediately.

Are your products safe to use if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Even though our products contain a safe dilution of essential oils and were developed with pregnant and breastfeeding women in mind, you should always speak to your doctor before using products containing essential oils whilst pregnant or breastfeeding.

Do your products contain any alcohol?

Nope! Our products are free from any ethanol forms of alcohol, an alcohol derived from grapes and dates, and other forms of alcohol with intoxicating effects. Find out more about alcohol and our ingredients.

Are your products completely natural?

While we use a high percentage of natural and natural derived ingredients, we also use safe and healthy man-made ingredients that are called ‘nature identical’ ingredients (like vitamin C, vitamin A or vitamin E). With this in mind, we can’t in good conscience call our products ‘completely natural’ and prefer to call them ‘plant-based’. For more information about our natural, naturally derived and nature identical products, head over to our ingredients.

Where are your products made?

Our products are locally manufactured in Tulbagh, Western Cape in South Africa.

Are your products Halal certified?

Yes! Our products are certified by the South African National Halaal Authority http://sanha.co.za/ and our products and factory are inspected twice per year.

Do your products contain fragrances?

We only use safe dilutions of essential oils to make our products smell good, so they are completely free of synthetic fragrances.

How soon will I start seeing results?

Just as skin damage takes time to develop, so does repairing it. As an active skincare range, you can expect to see improved glow and radiance within 6 to 8 weeks of correctly using the products. Reducing hyperpigmentation or dark spots can take a bit longer because of daily exposure to UV rays and it might take up to three months before you see pigment fading.

How should I be using your products?

Your daily skincare routine should include cleansing, followed by toning and then moisturising in the morning. If your moisturiser is SPF free, you should follow moisturising with sunblock.

In the evening, you should cleanse, tone, and then follow with a moisturiser.

You should use an exfoliator one to two times per week after cleansing, followed by applying your moisturiser, and a mask should be used once per week and should be applied after cleaning, followed by your moisturiser.
